Harwood’s Driving Girls’ Golf

A new initiative for Harwood Golf Club in 2025 saw the launch of “Driving Girls’ Golf”, a programme aimed at giving both secondary school and primary school girls a chance to try out golf. Under the enthusiastic and passionate leadership of Carol Brooking, this proved a fantastic opportunity to spot real talent, and two of the participants from Canon Slade, Harriet McLellan and Lottie Newton, were quickly put onto the Lancashire Girls’ Golf pathway, where they are making excellent progress, moving up a group only last weekend.

This weekend (26th April) Harriet competed in the Faldos’ Futures competition at Turton GC. And she only went and won! She now goes through to the regional final at Carus Green Golf Club in late May. At 13 years old, Harriet was the only girl in her age group and everyone was very impressed with her performance. Everyone at Harwood wishes her all the luck in the world in the upcoming regional finals. Lottie just missed out on being eligible to enter this competition due to her DOB, but she will without doubt have other opportunities in the near future.

We will be repeating this programme again in 2026 and coaching is already lined up for girls from Canon Slade High School and St Brendan’s and Harwood Meadows Primary Schools. Onwards and upwards for Harwood.
